 Instruction

About Your Instructor

Aaron Reimer (AKA Speybum) is Speycasting Enthusiastic Fly Casting Instructor who works build an “I Can Do It” attitude among clients of all ages.  In building his strength as a instructor, Aaron started two unique opportunities for the general public to experience Speycasting at its best. The first opportunity is the Day 0n the River program. The second opportunity is the Try Rack with its Rod and Line Pool.

The Day on the River was started quite by accident when Aaron was helping a friend learn how to Speycast. Two fly fishers happened by and stopped to watch. A conversation ensued and one asks if he could try the rod. He tried the rod and asked me if I could help him learn the cast. I was glad to help and we set a date for the following Saturday.  My new student and his friend brought two other fly fishers and the Day on the River was born. I started Day on the Rivers in 1995 and became more organized when I opened the River Run Anglers in 1999.

The Try Rack came out a project with which that I helped the late Mike Maxwell. Mike had set out to cast most of the new Speyrods (in the early 90’s there were not many) and work to fit lines for them. I continued this work and later presented a workshop at the FFF Fly fishers in 1994 on the modern Speyrods.

The idea of having the different styles of Speyrods always intrigued me. What were the differences and how did different lines affect the action and the cast? Once I started working on this idea and talking to other people about the try-before-you-buy idea was born. When I started River Run Anglers as a web-based business in 1995, I would send rods and lines out to potential customers for them to try. In 1999 when I opened my brick and mortar shop in Carnation Washington, I chose the location so that I could improve on both concepts of introducing the general public to Speycasting.

The Speyshcool and The Day on The River programs have offered me a vast opportunity to meet and help people with their Speycasting and their knowledge of rods and lines. In doing so, I have gained a very keen sense of the needs of about the Speycasting public. Using these two venues gave me a chance to polish first his instructional skills and then my casting skills.  In doing so I took and passed the Two Handed Fly Casting Instructors test from the Federation of Flyfishers. I have incorporated the guidelines from the Federation of Fly Fishers Two Handed Fly Rod Certification Test in to my course offerings. These guidelines are now the rules of the US Speycasting community. Many of the practical parts of the test are taught in these courses.
