RIVER RUN ANGLERS AND MT RAINIER FLY WORKS WILL BE WORKING TOGETHER TO DEVELOPE A NEW LINE OF SPEYREELS Mont Schroeder is the one man operation behind Mt. Rainier Flyreel Works. He builds truly unique reels, which are single action and anti-reverse. Like many of the people I deal with, he is a true artisan and seems to have something new all the time. Mont has been building reels for over twenty-two years now.
What drew me to the Mt. Rainier Flyreel Works is the unique reel designs, because they have a fascination with simplicity and robustness. The cone drags system on the anti-reverse reel that Mont designed is simplistic in function and bullet proof in ruggedness. Using a slip fit between the cone and spool, it offers a fail-proof system that needs very little maintenance and can be used in a wet or dry slip clutch mode. There are no pads to replace or wear out! He also offers a unique direct drive drag all-in-one assembly system that can be used in an existing anti-reverse type reel and also offers a dual drag reel on request!
Because of his unique design, a spare spool will be enclosed with each reel.
Mont is currently making a series of 4” and 4 ¼” Speyreels for use with all three belly length of Speylines. Mont is also working on Thomas Conroy Raised pillar reel with enough line capacity to hold a Speyline. It will be offered up to 3.5” spool diameter, as the largest size available. This reel is still in the works and looks to be a real classic. I will be stocking these reels as soon as they come out of production.
Pricing is still pending, so please email speybum@speyshop.com if you are interested.
