Jottings from a Speybum Note Book

Cortland Braided Mono

Cortland 30lb Braided Mono inside of the 50lb. Cortland Braided Mono Loops

Braided Mono Loops

(T-14 has a bad habit of hinging) I kept looking for a way stiffening the loop.

Finally came up with a somewhat cure of putting Cortland 30lb Braided Mono inside of the 50lb. And forming the loop the standard way using a Cortland Loop tool or a bobbin threader.

This stiffened the loop,

I found out the 50lb was to large for the t-14 so I ended up pulling Cortland 30lb Braided Mono inside of Cortland 30lb Braided Mono.

Then I strip the core coating off the t-14 and pull it through Mono and it out the "Y" of the loop.

Super Glue the connection. And whip finish.

Cortland 30lb Braided Mono inside of the 50lb. Cortland Braided Mono Loop is now my standard both for my Custom Lines and my reworked factory lines.

While camping at the Sandy with Sultan of Splice (Brian Simonseth)

I started using "Aquaflex in fact I was so taken by the stuff that I now stock it.

I have been bouncing back and for between Gudrode braided Mono and Cortland,

I ended up settling on Cortland for the large lines and it will accommodate truly large up to 16 wt. and dose not seem to cut the flyline coating like some of the other braided material I have used.

Nothing is as heartbreaking as to finally get large fish one and the flyline coating stippled the core by your loop material.

While trying to come with a suitable loop system for working with Rio’s T-14.
