An Overview

The Day on the River program started as way for a group of my friends to learn how to Speycast and use each another rods to experience different rods and line combinations.
Out of this special times with friends came two important aspects of my Speycasting:
The first and foremost was for me to polish my instruction skills.
The second aspect to come out of the Day on the River was the Tryrack, and my philosophy to try before you buy.In providing this service it gives me a chance to show case many manufactures makes of rods, lines and reels. This affords the customer a chance to pick a rod and line most suited for their casting style before they lay out the expense of buying.
To recap the history of The Day on the River . . . I started it in October of 1995 shortly after moving to Washington from Ketchikan, Alaska.
The late Bob MacGloflin was working a Swede’s Fly shop in Woodinville, Washington and one day ask me for speycasting instruction. I was honored by the request, and I said that I would gladly give him a hand with his casting. I added that anyone else who wanted to learn should be there too.
The first class of casters from The Day on the River was Bob MacGloflin , Rusty and John Reid, and John Peterson. John Reid is now a FFF Master Certified casting instructor and helps me with most of my single handed casting client.Over the past 10 years, quite a few speycasters have participated in this program, and I have gained a great deal of knowledge from them.
The program in the past few years has become quite popular both with the novice and experience spey casters. I would invite anyone who is in the area on a Saturday morning to join us.
