 Day at the River Program

Run Anglers is in a never-ending quest to inform the general public about flyfishing and specifically Spey casting. In keeping with this goal, we have initiated a new program of that will increase public awareness of the sport. RRA is opening the Day on the River goes to Schools.  In this program, students will be introduced to flyfishing and Spey casting as part of an educational outing.  The education value of learning the discipline of fly-casting is the focus of a three to four-hour outing for students.

Fly casting as taught by RRA is a team effort that works on the principle of student-supervised instruction.  The group of students is shown and explaint the process and then the instructors merely make small adjustments. The instructor’s main goal will be to impart to the students the paradigm of " I can do this."

On September 28th, Academy School’s Upper School (www.childacad.org ) was invited to join River Run Anglers on the Snoqualmie River for a day of fly casting.  The day began with a brief overview of the sport and beginning instruction in the field at Tolt-McDonald Park.  Students were paired and allowed to try the techniques while Aaron Reimer FFF THCI Instructor and John Reid FFF Master Instructor circulated coaching the youth.

After a good practice session, students moved to the river for a short discussion on river ecology and the life cycle of the salmon.  The students were then able to try their new skills over the water.  Every student was engaged and excited about his or her success during their Day on The River If you wonder why I am grinning in the picture like a proud pap, it is because this was truly fine group of young people and I am proud of a day or mentoring done right.
