NEW  SITE FOR CASTING INSTRUCTORS

The Association of Certified International Casting Instructors through its web presence at www.internationalcastinginstructors.com, www.internationalcastinginstructors.net, and www.internationalcastinginstructors.org is an organization open to all certified casting instructors world wide who belong to any recognized organization with established instructor certification programs. The Association of Certified International Casting Instructors (ACICI ; pronounced a - see - see ) is not a competitive group to any existing organization or web based casting forum,  but is by intent, a supporter of these organizations. ACICI’s role is to provide a central exchange point for all instructors world wide where ideas, news, programs, and events can be posted, discussed, and made available to all instructors no matter where they may be, or what organization they may belong to.

Casting for Recovery is special to us at River Run Anglers

Casting for Recovery has a deep meaning for me, as I am a cancer survivor, and know the mental and physical struggle that it takes to stay the course. So working with those of you who have had cancer or have cancer is one of the greatest privileges that I have to share my passion for teaching.

Each year I try to support Casting for Recovery any way that I can. This year we will have a dedicated Day on the River for Casting for Recovery. The Federation of Fly Fishers holds a deep respect for all those who fly fish, with Casting for Recovery and Project Healing Waters at the forefront of our thoughts and prayers.

Please check out the upcoming 2012 Womens Fly Fishing School for Casting for Recovery, on their blog at http://cfrriverrunanglers.blogspot.com/.

Light It Up Blue 2012 - Autism awareness

River Run Angler's is privileged to participate in Light It Up Blue 2012.

Autism awareness is the key to helping the children with autism and finding a cure. With your help, we can LIGHT UP KING COUNTY BLUE for autism awareness this year. (www.lightitupblue.org)

Join Autism Speaks to Light It Up Blue on April 2, 2012. With your help we will shine a bright spotlight on the public health crisis of autism and improve the future for everyone who struggles with the disorder.

Here are some basic facts about autism
. Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that impacts communication,
behavior and social relationships.
. 1 in 110 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, including 1 in 70 boys.
. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined.
. Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
. Currently, there are no effective means to prevent autism, no fully effective treatments and no cure. Research indicates, however, that early intervention can result in significant improvements.
. Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade
. There is no medical detection or cure for

Here are things you can do:

*Light Your House Up Blue - Purchase blue light bulbs from your local
lighting supply store or online and replace your outdoor lighting with these
blue bulbs.
*Wear Blue To Work Day
*Wear blue clothing and ask your co-workers to wear blue too. Consider
asking your colleagues to donate $5 to Autism Speaks.
*Build a blue website - Create a personal fundraising page with your own
picture, personal message, custom URL and email tools to ask friends and
family to support Light It Up Blue with a donation. Help us raise awareness
about autism by spreading the word via email, Facebook, Twitter, or your
personal blog or website.

Straight Line Path Of The Rod Tip

"The efficient loop formation requires the caster to move the rod tip in a Straight Line Path (SLP).

Whether single or Two handed fly rod the SLP is made by moving the rod butt up in the back cast and down in the forward cast. In doing so you are making an adjustment to accommodate the rod getting shorter from the bend (Load) in the rod.
I have looked at a lot of videos and pictures trying to depict the SLP of a two handed rod.
The following picture is as good as it gets.
Note the bend at the top hand to the tip, this allows for a tremendous rod loading and generates the line speed needed to form a very efficient loop.
Also note the bend between the top and bottom hand.
At this point the caster has yet to stop the rod with the lower hand and induct the top hand to finish the cast.

2011 Nordic Games
In this clip look haw fast the white rod dampens out after the stop and how the loop is formed showing not only great control of the caster by maintaining SLP which helps with formation of a very tight loop.

I always like to look at one or two points through out when watching videos.
One of these is "How the caster forms his loop." and the
second is "How well does the caster maintain the straight line path of the rod tip?".

No Day on the River Tomorrow - Saturday 1/21

There will be no day on the river tomorrow morning due to the weather and lack of power in the area. The river looks good today and is in great shape, but we will be sleeping in and staying dry!

Enjoy the day if you decide to go out and let us know how it goes!
